a half ironman every day for the month of November!
BetterMan is on a mission to help boys and men become better versions of themselves. We're ambitious and want to offer quality services that are going to turn the dial and help Kiwi blokes improve their mental health and wellbeing. In order to make this a reality we require much-needed funding.
Enter Nick Johnston, local police officer and all round great New Zealander who has put his hand up to help.
And not just help. Nick is on his own mission. Throughout Men's Mental Health Month in November, Nick's aim is to complete a half Ironman every day.
THE NUMBERS each day

1.9km swim
Which equates to 57km (or 2,280 lengths of a 25m pool) over the month of November.

90km bike
Clocking up 2700kms throughout November. (New Zealand is 1600km's long!)

21.1km run
All up, that's 633kms of running for the month. (Christchurch to Invercargill is 565kms!)
WHO IS
NICK JOHNSTON?

Nick Johnston is a Christchurch Police Dog Handler and member of the Armed Offenders Squad, a specialist unit that responds to high-risk, armed incidents. With over 13 years on the frontline, Nick’s seen the toll trauma and pressure can take. This November, he’s turning that experience into action. Every day in November he’ll be completing a half ironman to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
what will my donation go towards?
Alongside running regular events for Kiwi men that focus on improving mental, physical and social wellbeing, we also run positive psychology and wellbeing workshops for high school students. Called The REF Toolkit, the 60-minute presentations teach young people how to strengthen Relationships, manage Emotions, and have a more Flexible mindset. This helps them to build resilience and make positive changes. Plus, the impact doesn’t stop with them. It ripples outward – to their family, school, and communities. Your donation will enable us to continue to deliver these programmes.

in the press
